Students are expected to make good progress in their degree: Full-time students should be enrolled full-time while part-time students should make steady progress. The time limit for a M.S. degree is eight years and five years post-Preliminary Exam for Doctoral students. However, if the Faculty finds that a student is not making satisfactory progress based upon feedback from their committee (e.g., no reported research work for a lengthy period of time), a Ph.D. student may be dismissed.
If a student requires a break in the program for any reason, they should complete a leave of absence form to pause their progress. Extensions of time can also be requested in exceptional cases.
